Purposeful Travel

Members of Safi School Project travel periodically to Tanzania to work at Ngateu School, other projects and to experience the culture of Tanzania. Trips include safaris and your stay can be extended to If you wish to go to Zanzibar, climb Kilimanjaro, visit a remote Hadatze tribe, work longer at the school, sit by the pool - you can add the time between groups. (Or you could add on at the end.)

Trips in 2010

The plans are made - although flexible- for our trips to Tanzania in 2010. The trips split time between the Ngateu Secondary School Project School and Safaris to view to the migration, with options for "add-ons". We do this because we have found that it is very important to have moments to 'decompress' in order to stay balanced. Otherwise it can be overwhelming to suddenly place yourself as an active participant (not a viewing tourist) into a dynamically different culture. It is also great fun to see who can get the closest picture of an elephant's eye. This is a trip of a lifetime. It is unique in that it is purposeful travel. Ask anyone who has gone.

Group 1 - Jan. 15 - 31. Fly out of Seattle to Amsterdam and into Kilimanjaro. (it is possible to leave a day or two early to stay in Amsterdam before heading to Kilimanjaro.) work at Ngateu Secondary School for 5 days, meet with the school board, have an auction to benefit the school "humanitarian fund". safari to the Serengeti and Tarangire to view the annual migration. ( no guarantees as to number of animals.:-)

Group 2 - Feb. 1 - Feb. 17 Same basic plan as the first group. However, we have to be at Ndutu on Feb. 8 and 9 since they are booked all the other days. We'll work at the school, go on safari, work at the school and go on a short safari.

The costs will be for these 2 weeks - we hope it will be around $4000 - $4500. (Airfare is always the biggest question).

The deposit money is applied to lodging and in-country costs, not airfare. Airfare Cost – We purchase group tickets to keep costs down. Plan to buy your ticket early.
